Roadway Update

BRENTWOOD, CA – The Sand Creek Road railroad crossing work is nearly complete. The Union Pacific Railroad has installed their new track, crossing guards, and related facilities. The crossing guards are currently connected to a backup battery system to allow them to flash warning lights. PG&E will install power to the crossing guards sometime this month, barring any unforeseen weather delays.

Now that the railroad has completed their crossing work, the Contractor will finish the road between the tracks sometime this month. The City continues to work with the railroad and PG&E to coordinate when the road and trail can be opened. Barring any unforeseen weather delays, the road should open in late December or early January. Temporary power will be connected to the Sand Creek Road/O’Hara Avenue intersection to improve visibility during inclement weather and at night. Soundwall construction has begun and is expected to take four to five weeks, barring any unforeseen weather delays. Permanent power, remaining facilities, and landscaping are all scheduled to be completed in January, but these remaining activities will not delay the opening of the road.

The Contractor will complete installation of the new median on the Brentwood Boulevard Curve (west of Second Street) this month. Construction began on the sidewalk and driveway behind Safeway beginning this week for the third and final stage of work, and is expected to take four to five weeks, barring unforeseen weather delays. Final paving of the new roadway is scheduled for early January. Landscaping will be installed soon thereafter and the project should be completed by the end of January.
