Downtown Prepares for the Holidays

BRENTWOOD, CA – Downtown tree lights are being replaced, and it is anticipated that all existing lighted trees will be converted to the new system in time for the Downtown Holiday Parade. The current lighting system is no longer serviceable and a new style (bulb incased or 'rope light') is being installed by the Public Works Department beginning November 13, 2003. The new lights are more energy efficient, require less maintenance, are easier to repair and are more resistant to the elements.

The Parks & Recreation Department will be placing an 18-20 foot boxed live evergreen tree at the corner of Second and Oak Streets. The tree is scheduled to be in place about a week before the Holiday Parade and Tree-Lighting Ceremony sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce on November 29. After the holiday season, the tree will be relocated to an as-yet undetermined park site in the city, where it will be permanently planted, as preparations begin for the reconstruction of City Park.
