Sunset Sports Complex Groundbreaking

BRENTWOOD, CA – The public is invited to come out and join city staff and elected officials at a groundbreaking ceremony, “Sunrise at Sunset,” on Friday, August 15, at 8:30 a.m. at Sunset Park, 655 Sunset Road. With Brentwood’s rapidly expanding population the need for additional athletic fields made the expansion of Sunset Park Athletic Complex a high priority. The current 10-acre facility will be expanded to a 38-acre state of the art athletic facility that maximizes the site’s potential. Once finished, the $8.1 million complex will help serve the needs of Brentwood’s youth and adult sports programs and recreational opportunities.

The new park will be able to have four softball, two baseball and four soccer games occurring simultaneously. While parents or siblings are playing their games, members of the family can enjoy the concession and playground area that will have swings, climbers, bridges, spring toys, and a myriad of other play opportunities. When completed the new complex will boast the following amenities:

1. A four-field softball complex, in a cloverleaf configuration, that contains a restroom concession building, bleachers and picnic tables.

2. Two baseball fields.

3. Three full sized soccer fields.

4. One competition soccer field with a sand base drainage system and viewing stands.

5. Multi-aged playground facility for preschool through elementary school-aged children.

6. An additional restroom concession building and picnic area centrally located between the playground area, soccer fields, and ball facilities.

7. Perimeter walking pathway with a one-mile loop.

8. Parking for 350 cars.

9. Equestrian staging area with access to the Marsh Creek Trail.

10. Batting cages.

All athletic fields will be fully lit with a state of the art lighting and control system. The irrigation system will have a computerized central controller.

During construction the existing facility will be open for use until late November of 2003. Completion is anticipated in the summer of 2004.
