The Parks and Recreation Department held the formal park dedication of Miwok Park on Saturday, May 3, 2003. This 6.4-acre park, midway between Fairview Avenue and Minnesota Avenue and between Sand Creek Road and Grant Street is the newest neighborhood park to be opened in the City. The park has barbecues, a children’s play area, picnic tables and open space grass areas. Running through the park is the Miwok trail that will ultimately connect the East Bay Municipal Utility District’s Coast to Crest trail in the North, with Fairview in the south.

The next City of Brentwood park dedication will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2003 at the Balfour-Guthrie Park, located at 3101 Balfour Road. The event will start at 10:00 a.m., with the formal dedication scheduled to begin at 12:00 noon. This 6-acre neighborhood/community park was built by Brookfield Homes as a part of their development and includes a children’s play area, tennis and basketball courts, a lighted baseball/softball field, soccer field, and restrooms.

The Parks and Recreation Department’s on-line registration program “emotion” is now active, with the convenience and ease available for residents to sign up for programs from the comfort of their computer. The initial day of registration was so popular in volume that the City’s Information Services staff had to upgrade the server memory to handle the activity. In this initial sign-up, all programs other than swimming lessons and team sports can be accessed through the on-line registration program 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
