CITY OF BRENTWOOD SPONSORS BUSINESS TRAINING PROGRAM FOR START-UPS AND ENTREPRENEURS

BRENTWOOD, CA, January 24, 2012 – For the fourth year in a row, the City of Brentwood is offering a special business training program exclusively for new and existing business owners in Brentwood.

The intensive 10-week business management program focuses on developing a business plan, while at the same time providing the basic business education needs that are required to implement the plan. The program provides participants with a hands-on approach to instruction, including presentations from a professional trainer, videos, guest speakers, group and peer discussion, individual and group work sessions, as well as one-to-one consulting.

The program is part of the City’s long-term commitment to support start-up and home based businesses. More than 40 small business owners have already taken this training during the past four years.

“This training program literally saved our business,” said Kevin Johnson, co-owner of Johnson Heating and Air Conditioning – a Brentwood-based company that took the City training in 2011. “We were facing the immediate threat of a shutdown, but the City’s training opened our eyes as to how we could retool our company, and we were able to increase our sales by 20%.”

The program is made possible through an innovative partnership between the City of Brentwood and the Contra Costa Small Business Development Center (SBDC), with Brentwood providing $15,000 to help cover the program costs.

The deadline for applications is February 17, 2012 and classes will run from March 5 to May 9, 2012. Participants will be charged a $300 fee for the entire 10-week course.

To apply, please call the Contra Costa SBDC at (925) 602-6806, or visit the City’s Economic Development website at www.businessinbrentwood.com and select “Small Business Training” from the “Local Business Assistance” menu to download an application. After completing the application, please mail or fax it to:
