CITY OF BRENTWOOD AND THE BRENTWOOD CHAMBER SPONSORS NEW VENTURE TRAINING PROGRAM

BRENTWOOD, Calif., November 21, 2008 – The City of Brentwood and the Brentwood Chamber of Commerce, in cooperation with the Contra Costa Small Business Development Center, are sponsoring the New Venture Training Program – entrepreneurial training for new and existing businesses in Brentwood.

The intensive 12-week business management program focuses on developing a business plan, while at the same time providing the basic business education needs that are required to implement the plan.  The program provides participants with a hands-on approach to instruction, including presentations from a professional trainer, videos, guest speakers, group and peer discussion, individual and group work sessions, as well as one-to-one consulting.

This is the second year that the City has offered this program in Brentwood.  Last year, 15 prospective and existing businesses took advantage of this program.

“The City is excited about bringing this program back for another year,” said Linda Maurer, Economic Development Manager.  “We would like to encourage those considering a business and those already in business to take advantage of this unique opportunity.” Brentwood Chamber CEO, Harry York, added, “This is exactly the type of program the Chamber would like to offer the local business and those individuals thinking about going into business.”

Funding for this program ($10,000) is being provided through a grant from the City’s Business License Grant program.  Participants will be charged a $250 fee for application and material costs.

Applications are now being accepted.  To apply, please call the Contra Costa Small Business Development Center to set up an interview at (925) 646-5377, or visit their website at www.ContraCostaSBDC.com and click on the Brentwood link to download an application.  After completing the application, please mail or fax it to:
