The City of Brentwood has been operating its own Solid Waste Division since 1994. Its collection program has been a leader in the County's recycling efforts with its innovative, user-friendly containerized recycling programs. Brentwood was one of the first cities in the County and the state to implement city-wide yard waste collection and its single-stream recycling collection is now the direction that the whole industry is moving towards.

The Solid Waste Division is operated financially as a separate entity, called an Enterprise Fund. This ensures that all operational and administrative expenses are 100% covered by the fees collected for services. This guarantees a fully self-sufficient operation, separate from the General Fund.
