Family Plan:
Everyone should have a family emergency action plan. The key to surviving any emergency or disaster is planning. Hold a family meeting to discuss emergency issues related to earthquakes, flooding, hazardous material, fire, or any possible hazard or disaster that could happen.

It is possible when you have an actual emergency that your family will not be together or you will not be able to get to your home. To prepare for this identify an alternate home/place site and an out of town contact person. This will help you get back together and, if that is not possible, at least you will know where each other are and how you are doing.

  • Plan your escape route from your home
  • Plan a meeting place
  • Have an out of town contact person
  • Have 72 hours of food/water supplies (both in the home and the car)
    • Non-perishable food for 3 or 4 days (consider diet requirements)
    • Water (1 gallon of water per person per day)
    • Cooking tools (camp stove, matches, utensils, manual can opener)
    • Flashlight with batteries
    • Radio with batteries
    • Extra batteries
    • First Aid Kit
    • Prescription medicine

Store foods that require little or no cooking or refrigeration. Store foods that require little or no water for preparation. Water supplies may have been damaged. Choose foods that will not increase thirst. Choose can and package sizes carefully. Refrigeration may be difficult. Choose sizes your family can consume in one meal. Store foods that will meet the needs of family members requiring special diets.
