INFRASTRUCTURE

Breaking Ground on Brentwood’s Future

The Redevelopment Agency is a prime funding source for infrastructure improvements.  These projects help to eliminate blight because they prepare the site for development, thus creating favorable conditions for development.  Past and current projects include:

  Roadway widening and improvements

    1. Second Street Extension to O’Hara Avenue provides key relief from traffic congestion to motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians traveling in and out of the Downtown.  Agency participated by contributing $1 million to the project.

    2. Widening and utility under grounding for Walnut Boulevard improves the vehicular commute to Vasco Road, the City’s main commute arterial located south of Brentwood.  The Agency’s $1.4 million helps pay for new sidewalk, curbs, gutters and landscaping are part of this project.

    3. Brentwood Boulevard Widening includes two lanes in each direction, bike lanes, curb, gutter, median, sidewalk, street lighting and landscaping on each side of the street.  The project also includes widening the bridge over Marsh Creek, and the moving overhead power lines, telephone lines and cable lines underground.
    4. Traffic Signal at Shady Willow and Sand Creek.  Traffic has increased dramatically because of the build out of Sand Creek Road and Shady Willow.  At this increasingly important corner, the Agency is financially assisting the Villa Amador multi-family apartment complex with $200,000 for the new traffic signal.  The traffic signal will improve traffic circulation for all residents and commuters in Brentwood.
    5. Village Drive street light replacement.  The Agency provided $29,200 to increase public safety and provide a safer environment for the neighborhood.

Surface parking lots in the Downtown offering 124 stalls to help alleviate the squeeze of on-street parking.  These     lots are 98% occupied during the peak shopping and dining hours.

Downtown Area Safety Improvements – the installation of crosswalks, stripping, and pedestrian activated lighted         crosswalks to improve pedestrian safety, traffic circulation and congestion during peak hours.

Water and Sewer improvements and connections – includes the installation of new facilities, the rehabilitation of    existing facilities, and either the removal or replacement of existing infrastructure to accommodate future    development and to correct existing operations and maintenance constraints due to the age of the facilities.

    1. Along Brentwood Boulevard between Sunrise and Grant - $260,000
    2. Sunrise Drive
    3. Gregory Lane
    4. Lone Tree Way - $22,000
    5. Lone Oak Road - $1,643,000
    6. Harvest Park Basin - $4720,000

Your Redevelopment Agency frequently works behind the scenes (and underground!) to assist with some of the less glamorous, but equally important, community improvements ensuring the lives and homes of the community are enhanced.

Downtown Streetscape and Infrastructure Projects

The Redevelopment Agency intends to invest approximately $11.5M by creating conditions that will encourage new development and revitalize the Downtown. Installation of a new streetscape design in the amount of $6.5M includes 20’ sidewalks for outdoor dining, new furniture, fountain, gateway arches and shade trees. These outdoor renovations will create a beautiful setting for the City’s most historic district that also complements the restored City Park and new Civic Center. To bring the aging water and sewer facilities up to current standards will cost another $5.0M and is necessary to support new development and increased usage of existing buildings.
