|CITY COUNCIL AGENDA ITEM NO. 15
Meeting Date: August 12, 2008
Subject/Title: Approve the creation of the Los Medanos College Ad-Hoc Subcommittee and appoint Mayor Taylor and Council Member Becnel to serve on the Subcommittee
Submitted by: Linda Maurer, Economic Development Manager

Approve the creation of the Los Medanos College Ad-Hoc Subcommittee and appoint Mayor Taylor and Council Member Becnel to serve on the Subcommittee
The Los Medanos College Brentwood Center currently occupies approximately 18,000 square feet within the Brentwood Education and Technology Center, which is owned by the City of Brentwood. Enrollment for the Brentwood campus has exceeded projections, with approximately 3,000 students currently taking classes in Brentwood. Future projected enrollment has led the College to review its options for a permanent facility and location.
Staff is recommending the formation of an ad-hoc subcommittee consisting of Mayor Taylor and Councilmember Becnel to work with City staff and representatives of Los Medanos College and the Contra Costa College District to establish a new facility in Brentwood.
This proposed ad-hoc subcommittee will be complementary to the recommended ad-hoc Brentwood Boulevard Specific Plan Subcommittee on tonight’s City Council agenda. The current location of the Los Medanos College Brentwood Center falls within the proposed Specific Plan area. Further, it is the desire of City staff to work on site opportunities within the proposed Brentwood Boulevard Specific Plan to help catalyze development opportunities in this corridor.
