October 2008 as National Arts & Humanities Month and Celebrating the Brentwood Art, Wine & Jazz Festival October 11th & 12th
WHEREAS, the Brentwood Art Society was established in July 2002, as a nonprofit public benefit corporation to develop, maintain and implement a high level of arts and cultural programs in the City of Brentwood; and
WHEREAS, on November 13, 2007, City Council approved a Memorandum of Understanding with the Brentwood Arts Society regarding running a wide variety of community arts programs; and
WHEREAS, National Arts & Humanities Month in October, under the leadership and direction of the Americans for the Arts, is a coast to coast collective celebration of culture in America; and
WHEREAS, the Brentwood Art, Wine & Jazz festival provides a unique opportunity to bond together the citizens and businesses of the Brentwood community while raising the much needed revenue for local art and cultural arts programs; and
WHEREAS, the 6th annual Brentwood Art, Wine & Jazz Festival is a two day civic celebration encouraging awareness of our communities’ leading artists in fields such as music, culinary, dance and visual arts, while introducing the features and benefits of art related programs and education offered by the City of Brentwood and local school districts.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, that we, the City Council of the City of Brentwood, proclaim October as National Arts & Humanities Month and encourage all citizens and businesses to participate in the Brentwood Art, Wine & Jazz Festival October 11th and 12th, 2008 in Historic Downtown City Park and join hands with their neighbors as we celebrate our artists and share with our guests, the place we call home.
