PROCLAMATION

Reading Festival Weekend

WHEREAS, reading and literacy are the cornerstones of a free and democratic society; and

WHEREAS, developing an interest in reading can have positive social, civic and economic implications for society; and

WHEREAS, libraries are organizations that play a unique role in encouraging and supporting reading in the community; and

WHEREAS, the Brentwood Community library as part of the Contra Costa County Library is holding a “Reading Festival” the weekend of May 16 – 18, 2008 in order to promote the importance of reading; and

WHEREAS, 50 authors will be talking about their books in 25 libraries throughout Contra Costa County including the Brentwood Community Library; and

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the City Council of the City of Brentwood, do hereby proclaim May 2008, as Contra Costa County Library Reading Festival month in the city of Brentwood and encourage all residents to use their library for the purpose of improving their lives
