City of Brentwood
Proclaiming May 1, 2008, as
“Paint the Town Purple”

WHEREAS, the American Cancer Society is the nationwide voluntary community-based health organization of local citizens and businesses dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem; and

WHEREAS, the Relay for Life event is the American Cancer Society’s premier event, by which the organization accomplishes its mission; and

WHEREAS, the Relay For Life event consists of over 4,000 events nationwide to honor cancer survivors, educate the general public about the importance of early detection and prevention of cancer, and raise funds in the fight against cancer; and

WHEREAS, the color purple is widely known as the Relay for Life signature color signifying the passion that cancer survivors and their families feel for finding a cure for this disease; and

WHEREAS, one of the events sponsored by the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life is “Paint Your Town Purple” which is held on May 1, 2008.

WHEREAS, the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life encourages community members to get involved in Relay for Life and the Paint Your Town Purple Event; and

WHEREAS, the Relay for Life event for the Brentwood Community will be held at Liberty High School’s football field on June 21st and 22nd 2008; and

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, that the City Council of the City of Brentwood does hereby recognize the accomplishments of the American Cancer Society and the citizens of Brentwood who donate money, goods and services and countless number of volunteer hours and proclaim May 1, 2008 as “Paint Your Town Purple Day.”
