| Proclamation Proclaiming May as National Drown Prevention Month WHEREAS, drowning kills more toddlers in California than any other accidental cause; and WHEREAS, most children drown in their own swimming pools, but some children also drown in buckets, toilets, bathtubs and creeks; and WHEREAS, near-drowning calls are tragic, many times causing permanent brain damage; and WHEREAS, anyone involved with young children needs to be aware of how to prevent drowning; and WHEREAS, drowning and near-drowning incidents are preventable; and WHEREAS, the City of Brentwood, has taken a pro-active stance in support of statewide and national efforts in drown prevention awareness and aquatic education programs by it’s inclusion in Council/Administrative Policy 90-3, (Wellness Policy) Section 11. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I Robert Taylor, Mayor of the City of Brentwood, proclaim May as National Drown-Prevention Month and encourage all citizens to participate in raising their awareness of Drown-Prevention techniques to avoid these kinds of tragedies in our community.
