RECOMMENDATION
Accept a 2007 Achievement Award from the California Parks and Recreation Society for the City of Brentwood Wellness Policy.

PREVIOUS ACTION
The City of Brentwood, City Council adopted the City Council Two-Year Action Plan, to include a health and wellness initiative on June 13, 2005.

City Council approved the Wellness Policy as a guideline and directed staff to develop a formal City Council/Administrative Policy related to wellness issues on February 27, 2007.

On November 13, 2007, City Council approved the 19-point City of Brentwood Wellness Policy Guidelines as an official Council/Administrative Policy 90-3.

BACKGROUND
Each year the California Parks and Recreation Society holds the California & Pacific Southwest Recreation & Park Training Conference. The conference features training sessions, exhibits and displays, networking opportunities, and recognizes individuals and agencies for their “cutting edge” recreation and community services and programs, parks and facilities, maintenance management, and professional service.

Staff submitted the City’s Wellness Policy in the Recreation and Community Services Award, Health and Wellness category for 20,001 to 50,000 in population, and was awarded an Achievement Award. We are proud to accept this honor from California Parks and Recreation Society in recognition of our commitment to the health and wellness of our community members.
