Subject/Title: Adopt a resolution confirming names for new park facilities in the Vineyards at Marsh Creek development as recommended by the Park and Recreation Commission.
Prepared by: Ken De Silva, Facilities/Landscape Manager
Submitted by: Craig D. Bronzan, Director of Parks and Recreation
Adopt a resolution confirming names for new park facilities in the Vineyards at Marsh Creek development as recommended by the Park and Recreation Commission.
In June 2001, the City Council of the City of Brentwood approved a policy regarding the naming/dedication of City facilities.
For several years, the City of Brentwood has approved subdivisions that include ½ acre and larger parks.
In all previous subdivisions processed in the City of Brentwood, park concepts have been approved by the Park and Recreation Commission.
At the Vineyards at Marsh Creek development Subdivision #8796, one of the parks is in the final stages of approving construction improvement plans without a City Council approved park name.
The park names for the Vineyards at Marsh Creek development were offered by Shea Homes. Shea Homes made a formal request to the City on October 23, 2007 to approve the park names that they generated.
To address lack of approved park names at the Vineyards at Marsh Creek development and per request of Shea Homes, park staff met with the Park Naming Subcommittee of the Park and Recreation Commission on November 15, 2007, to approve submitted park names by Shea Homes or to generate new park names for the Vineyards at Marsh Creek development.
At the December 20, 2007 Park and Recreation Commission meeting, the Park and Recreation Commission discussed the park names recommended by the Park and Recreation Commission Park Naming Subcommittee. The Park and Recreation Commission approved the name chosen by the Park Naming Subcommittee for the Vineyards at Marsh Creek Subdivision #8796.
All of the parks in the subdivision are adjacent to Vineyards Parkway corridor from the extension of Fairview down to the junction of Marsh Creek Road. The following park names with locations are being brought forward for City Council approval:
1. On the park land close to John Muir Parkway, Vineyards Parkway/Fairview junction, the Park naming Committee recommended Monte Rosa Park. The park is nestled between two large vineyards hills and solid view of Mount Diablo. The vineyards have roses at the end of each vineyard row.
2. On the park land west of the center of the subdivision along Vineyards Parkway, the Park Naming Committee recommended Alta Park. The park is located on the highest portion of the Vineyards at Marsh Creek project. Alta is a Spanish word for high.
3. On the park land close to the future amphitheater and Vineyards Parkway, the Park Naming Subcommittee recommended Aspen Park. The park incorporates large pond/water feature. The word Aspen is named after a park in Oregon with lots of water elements.
4. On the park land close to the junction of Vineyards Parkway and Marsh Creek Road, the Park Naming Subcommittee recommended Pioneer Park. The park is in close proximately to John Marsh Home and its historical significance to the area.
There is no fiscal impact to the City in approving park names for new park facilities.
