attend the National Recreation & Parks Association (NRPA) annual Congress.

Approve by motion a request of Park and Recreation Commissioners Lanny
Brown, Ernie Rodrigues, Eileen Hofstadt and Sandra Myers to attend the
National Recreation & Parks Association (NRPA) annual Congress in
Indianapolis from September 25 to 29, 2007.
City Council approved the 2005/2006 – 2006/07 Operation Line Item Budget at
the regular City Council meeting of June 14, 2005. In this budget, monies
were budgeted for Park and Recreation Commissioners to attend trainings and
conferences which includes the National Recreation and Park Association
Council/Administrative Policy 20-4, “Travel / Expense Policy” Section 4.1
states that “Overnight travel by Councilmembers and Commissioners, except
League of Cities, shall be pre-approved by having the item placed on the
City Council Consent Calendar”. In each of the past three years, members of
the Park and Recreation Commission have attended the NRPA Congress,
accompanied by Parks and Recreation Department staff.
The NRPA Congress is the national training Congress where Commissioners and
staff have the opportunity to learn about the latest trends, policies,
customer services programs, and training requirements that are necessary for
parks and recreation agencies. It was at the 2004 NRPA Congress that the
Brentwood Park and Recreation Commission was honored as one of three
commissions in the country for the outstanding work they have done in
Costs for this conference are included in the City Council proposed 2007/08
– 2008/09 budget. Registration fees and travel expenses of approximately
$1,750 per Commissioner, for a total of $7,000 will be charged to the Park
and Recreation Commission budget account.
