Meeting Date: September 12, 2006

Subject/Title: Approve a Resolution of the City Council of the City of Brentwood authorizing: (1.) acceptance of a grant from United States Tennis Association (USTA) for FY 2006/2007 for resurfacing of the Creekside Park tennis court; and (2.) the City Manager or her designee to execute any documents related to the grant.

Prepared by: Poldina Scherff, Recreation Manager

Submitted by: Craig D. Bronzan, Director of Parks and Recreation

RECOMMENDATION
Approve a Resolution of the City Council of the City of Brentwood authorizing: (1.) acceptance of a grant from United States Tennis Association (USTA) for FY 2006/2007 for resurfacing of the Creekside Park tennis court; and (2.) the City Manager or her designee to execute any documents related to the grant.

PREVIOUS ACTION
None for this project. Creekside Park is approximately ten years old and the tennis court has never been resurfaced.

BACKGROUND
The USTA Adopt-A-Court program was initiated by the Technical Committee of USTA in 1999 to financially assist public tennis facilities in repairing and upgrading existing tennis courts. By investing in the rehabilitation and development of tennis facilities in the United States, USTA believes the program will provide more opportunity for the growth and development of the game.

The USTA Public Facility Funding application grants up to $2,500 from USTA National that must be matched dollar for dollar for facility improvements including fixed amenities (e.g. resurfacing, windscreens, backboards, fencing, lighting systems).

Staff recommends acceptance of funds for Creekside Park tennis court in FY 2006/2007 in the amount of $2,000. The project will begin and be complete in September 2006. By receiving this grant the City will reduce its cost of resurfacing by 50%.

FISCAL IMPACT
The estimated cost for this project is $4,000. Staff recommends acceptance of USTA grant funds in the amount of $2,000. The remainder of the project has been budgeted in Creekside maintenance budget 230-2504 and Tennis programs 100-6313-70240 for fiscal year 2006/07.
