Approve the appointment of Jim Cushing to the Planning Commission for a term
ending December 31, 2005 to fill the vacancy of Ray Shipley.
At the City Council meeting of July 12, 2005, Ray Shipley announced his
resignation from the Planning Commission effective July 31, 2005. Additional
correspondence submitted by Mr. Shipley requested that the date of
resignation be extended to August 3, 2005. The resignation of Planning
Commissioner Shipley created a vacancy of which the term was due to expire
on December 31, 2005. Staff advertised the vacancy and the following
residents submitted applications by the August 12, 2005 deadline: Al Moffatt,
Jim Cushing and Martin K. Elliott.
Mayor Swisher recommended that the Interview Subcommittee, comprised of
Councilmembers Gutierrez and Brockman and two Community Development staff
members, conduct interviews and recommend an appointment to the Council. On
September 28, 2005, the Interview Subcommittee met and interviewed three
candidates and hereby recommends that Council approve the appointment of Jim
Cushing to the Planning Commission.
There is no fiscal impact.
