The California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) makes funds available to local
government for the purposes of reducing vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian
collisions and making public roadways safer. Funding is based upon the
magnitude and severity of the problems identified and availability of funds.
A “concept paper” was submitted by staff from the Engineering and Finance
Departments requesting a grant in the amount of $138,275 in the Pedestrian
and Bicycle Safety program area, due to the need shown by the OTS ranking.
Of this grant, $56,253 will pay for the purchase of equipment and all
appurtenances for in-pavement lighted crosswalks. The City of Brentwood must
pay for the installation costs associated with the lighted crosswalks.
The attached CIP budget sheet reflects funding for the purchase and
installation of the in-pavement lighted crosswalks for a total amount of
$129,253. Of this amount, $73,000 is requested from the General Fund and
$56,253 will be reimbursed through the OTS Safety Grant. Claims for
reimbursable costs will be submitted quarterly per the executed agreement.
This is a one-time cost.
