CITY COUNCIL AGENDA ITEM NO. 6

Meeting Date: June 28, 2005

Prepared by: Craig D. Bronzan, Director of Parks and Recreation

Submitted by: Craig D. Bronzan, Director of Parks and Recreation

RECOMMENDATION
Accept the recognition given to the City of Brentwood from the Northern California Chapter of the American Public Works Association for a 2005 Distinguished Project Award – Parks and Recreation, for Sunset Park Athletic Complex.

PREVIOUS ACTION
February 8, 2005, City Council accepted the work and park improvements at Sunset Park Athletic Complex and held a grand opening of the complex on March 5, 2005.

BACKGROUND
Vali Cooper and Associates, an inspection company who is on contract with the City of Brentwood, nominated the City’s process and design for the Sunset Park Athletic Complex for award consideration by the American Public Works Association. On May 20, 2005, as a part of Public Works Week, the Northern California Chapter of the American Public Works Association announced that the City of Brentwood had received a 2005 Distinguished Project Award, in the Parks and Recreation category for Sunset Park Athletic Complex.

This award recognition is very much a reflection of the work that was done by the Sunset Park subcommittee, which was made up of representatives from City Council, Park and Recreation Commission, user groups, and City staff. This commitment to get everyone involved produced one of the finest athletic complexes in Northern California and it is already receiving outside recognition by professional organizations. It is another example of the award winning work done on behalf of our citizens by the City of Brentwood.

FISCAL IMPACT
None.
