Subject/Title: Approve a Resolution authorizing the purchase of two (2) new, utility style, work trucks and one (1) 2-yard dump truck from Bill Brandt Ford and authorizing the City Manager to execute a purchase order for these vehicles not to exceed $59,882.93.

RECOMMENDATION
Approve a Resolution authorizing the purchase from the Street Maintenance Division 2004/05 Operating Budget of two (2) new, utility style, work trucks and a replacement vehicle for Vehicle No. 5129 with a 1-ton, 2-yard dump truck from Bill Brandt Ford and authorizing the City Manager to execute a purchase order for these vehicles not to exceed $59,882.93.

PREVIOUS ACTION
The 2003/04 - 2004/05 Operating Budget for the City of Brentwood was approved by City Council on June 10, 2003, Resolution No. 2893.

The Amended 2003/04 – 2004/05 Operating Budget for the City of Brentwood was approved by the City Council on January 13, 2004, Resolution No. 2004-12.

The Amended 2003/04 – 2004/05 Operating Budget with appropriations and revenue adjustments was approved by the City Council on June 8, 2004, Resolution No. 2004-132.

BACKGROUND
City Council approved the purchase of two (2) new, utility style, 1-ton work trucks in the Amended 2003/04 – 2004/05 Operating Budget. Vehicle No. 5129 was listed to be replaced during the 2004-05 Operating Budget. Staff recommends replacing Vehicle No. 5129 with the same style of vehicle, a 2-yard dump truck on a 1-ton chassis.

The bids for the listed trucks are as follows:

• Bill Brandt Ford $59,882.93
• Brentwood Dodge No Bid
• Coalinga Motors (CMAS) $37,032.97 (amount listed for only two vehicles that did
not meet specifications)

These vehicles will be used within the Street Maintenance Division, sidewalk maintenance and traffic maintenance sections. With the City’s continued growth and the amount of new streets being installed, these new vehicles will assist the Public Works Department with responding to street maintenance work requests in a timely manner.

FISCAL IMPACT
The two work trucks will be expended through the Street Maintenance Division Operating Budget and the dump truck will be expended through the City Replacement Fund in a total amount not to exceed $59,882.93.

RESOLUTION NO.

APPROVE A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF TWO (2) NEW, UTILITY STYLE, WORK TRUCKS AND ONE (1) 2-YARD DUMP TRUCK FROM BILL BRANDT FORD AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A PURCHASE ORDER FOR THESE VEHICLES NOT TO EXCEED $59,882.93.

WHEREAS, funds in the amount of $105,000 were approved by City Council in the 2003/04 – 2004/05 Amended Operating Budget on June 8, 2004 Resolution No. 2004-132 for the purchase of two vehicles and equipment for newly budgeted Maintenance Worker II positions; and

WHEREAS, these funds were not expended in the 2004/05 fiscal year; and

WHEREAS, the new Maintenance Worker II positions were filled in the 2004/05 fiscal year; and

WHEREAS, the purchase of these new vehicles and equipment will assist in servicing the public in a more efficient manner while responding to street maintenance work requests; and

WHEREAS, it is the intention of the Public Works Department to have the new Maintenance Worker II positions maintain all city streets and right-of-ways to insure public safety.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Manager or his or her designee is authorized to execute a purchase order with Bill Brandt Ford in an amount not to exceed $59,882.93 for the purchase of two (2) new, utility style, vehicles and one (1) 2-yard dump truck.
