RECOMMENDATION
Approve a Resolution amending the 2004/05-2008/09 Capital Improvement Program by adding the City Data Center project into the program.

PREVIOUS ACTION
On June 8, 2004, by Resolution No. 2004-134, City Council approved the 100% schematic design for the new City Hall, CIP Project No. 337-3139 and directed staff to design the project as approved.

On December 14, 2004, by Resolution No. 2004-280, City Council approved the contract documents and awarded the construction contracts for the New Police Station (Group C), CIP Project No. 337-3142, and the New City Hall Data Center, CIP Project No. 337-3139, plus 10% contingencies for Bid Packages # 11 – Metal Buildings/Overhead Doors and # 22 – Sitework.

BACKGROUND
The construction of a City Data Center was originally intended to be part of the New City Hall. After the design of the New City Hall was completed, it was determined that the City Data Center project should be housed at the New Police Station site in order to support the future growth potential of the Data Center; to house IS personnel on site; to allow for the building of future partnerships within the data center; and to address security issues. Further, the data center will have back up power by a 24/7 generator at this site.

At that time, the City Data Center became its own entity and was no longer a part of the New City Hall project. Further, with the New City Hall project temporarily on hold, construction of the City Data Center needed to move forward in order to support the New Police Department. The City Data Center would also need to be up and running when construction on the New City Hall begins.

FISCAL IMPACT
The fiscal impact associated with the City Data Center is $672,895. Funding for this project was included within the New City Hall project as Community Facilities fees and will be transferred to this project. These funds have already been earmarked and designated specifically for this Data Center.
