RECOMMENDATION
Approve a resolution adopting the Vision and Culture Statement, Five Core Values, Mission Statement, and the “Brentwood Way”

BACKGROUND
Over the past two years the Department Directors and City Manager have been investing time in a series of team building and organization development meetings. The most obvious result of that effort has been increased efficiency and communication between the various City Departments. Part of the team building effort was invested in developing the vision and culture statement, the five core values, the mission statement, and the “Brentwood Way.” These values and statements are utilized in a number of official City documents such as the City Manager’s “Decade of Progress” Report to Council, the Mayor’s State of the City Address, in presentations to regional organizations and community groups, in recruitment material, and on Department Director business cards. The values and statements are also used as motivational tools as in the annual awards given to the employees that embody the traits of the five core values.

Council approval of these motivational tools will assist in driving them further and deeper into the core of the organization.

Vision and Culture:
We create and institutionalize a vision and culture that furthers the goal of Brentwood representing the highest civic standard. We form the organization around the values of integrity, passion, accountability, respect and quality to create the “Brentwood Way” of doing business.

We hold as our Core Values -
• Integrity—uncompromising adherence to moral and ethical principals
• Passion—boundless enthusiasm for what we do
• Accountability—answerable for our actions
• Respect—to feel and show esteem and consideration for others
• Quality—the highest degree of excellence

Mission Statement:
Elevating confidence in government

The “Brentwood Way”
• “Good enough” is never good enough and we find a way to do it better.
• Striving to be the best. The best is never defined or constrained; it is never reached and we advance the standard every day.
• Taking the best of both business and government for the benefit of the community.

FISCAL IMPACT
None.
