Subject/Title: Approve a Resolution to Adopt the Amended Mission Statement, Membership Requirements and the 2004 Goals for the Brentwood Advisory Neighborhood Committee.

RECOMMENDATION
Approve a Resolution to adopt the amended Mission Statement, Membership Requirements and the 2004 Goals for the Brentwood Advisory Neighborhood Committee.

PREVIOUS ACTION
On July 14, 1998, City Council approved the Mission Statement, Membership Requirements and the 1998 Goals for the Brentwood Neighborhood Advisory Committee.

BACKGROUND
The Brentwood Advisory Committee is an advisory committee made up of residents from various neighborhoods throughout the City. Meetings are conducted on the forth Wednesday of the month. The committee serves on special task forces to study City issues and to work on projects such as the "Home of the Month" program, Christmas tree lighting in November, and Christmas lighting contest in December to help draw the citizens of Brentwood together as a united community.

The Brentwood Neighborhood Advisory Committee has worked diligently over the past three months to restructure itself and better define its purpose and work program. They have requested City Council affirm the work effort by adopting the attached amended work plan.

RESOLUTION NO.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BRENTWOOD TO ADOPT THE AMENDED MISSION STATEMENT, MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS AND THE 2004 GOALS FOR THE BRENTWOOD ADVISORY NEIGHBORHOOD COMMITTEE.

WHEREAS, on July 14, 1998, City Council approved the Mission Statement, Membership Requirements and the 1998 Goals for the Brentwood Neighborhood Advisory Committee; and

WHEREAS, the Brentwood Advisory Committee is an advisory committee made up of residents from various neighborhoods throughout the City and meetings are conducted on the forth Wednesday of the month; and

WHEREAS, the committee serves on special task forces to study City issues and to work on special citizen recognition programs, to help draw the citizens of Brentwood together as a united community; and

WHEREAS, the Brentwood Neighborhood Advisory Committee has worked diligently over the past three months to restructure itself and better define its purpose and work program.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Brentwood hereby adopt the amended Mission Statement, Membership Requirements and the 2004 Goals for the Brentwood Advisory Neighborhood Committee.

PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Brentwood at a regular meeting held on the 10th day of August 2004 by the following vote:

MISSION STATEMENT / MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS / GOALS

Mission Statement:

• Provide a voice for all neighborhoods to establish and maintain open communication with City leaders.
• Help draw citizens of Brentwood together as a united community.

Membership Requirements:

• Term-3 years; extension granted by City Manager and 2/3’s majority vote by committee.
• Meeting requirements - Max of two unexcused absences. Member is then dropped from committee.
• Neighborhoods - one representative from each neighborhood.
• Application completed and submitted to committee and approved by City Manager and/or City Council.

Goals:

Provide a recognition program for our community
• April – September: “Home of the Month”
• October: “Halloween Decorating Contest”
• December: “Home of the Season Lighting Contest”
• Good Neighbor Recognition Program
Heighten community awareness of Advisory Committee through the following activities
• Participate in City parades
• Participate in new park grand openings
• Booth in Cornfest “Information Alley”
• Participate in “Hometown Halloween” event
