CITY COUNCIL AGENDA ITEM NO. 23

Meeting Date: November 25, 2003

Subject/Title: Accept First Annual Report on the Parks, Trails, and Recreation Master Plan

Submitted by: Craig D. Bronzan, Director of Parks and Recreation

Approved by: John Stevenson, City Manager

RECOMMENDATION
Accept the First Annual Report on the Parks, Trails, and Recreation Master Plan.

PREVIOUS ACTION
City Council adopted the Parks, Trails, and Recreation Master Plan and adopted the Initial Study and Mitigated Negative Declaration on June 25, 2002.

BACKGROUND
One of the innovative parts of the City of Brentwood Parks, Trails, and Recreation Master Plan is the requirement that the plan is reviewed each year, with the submission of an annual report to City Council to evaluate the Parks and Recreation Department’s level of success in implementing the Master Plan. With the time and input that was required to complete the Master Plan, and the importance it plays in directing the future of parks and recreation in Brentwood, there was a strong desire to make sure the plan didn’t get approved and then sit on a shelf, never to be looked at again. The requirement of an annual report attempts to keep the plan up-to-date and current.

With approval of the Master Plan on June 25, 2002, Parks and Recreation staff have compiled the first annual report for fiscal year 2002/2003 with the assistance and review by the Park and Recreation Commission. This first report concentrated on the status of Section 6, Goals, Objectives and Policies and related documents.

Staff will be presenting a brief overview of the First Annual Report to City Council for acceptance as recommended by the Park and Recreation Commission and Parks and Recreation Department staff.

FISCAL IMPACT
