Subject/Title: City Contribution to Unity Plaza

RECOMMENDATION
Approve a Resolution authorizing the Finance Director to fund the Liberty Union High School’s Unity Plaza Project through a donation of $5,000.

None.

BACKGROUND
The students of Liberty Union High School District made a presentation to the City Council regarding the Unity Plaza project at the September 23, 2003, Council meeting. The City and High School District worked closely on cultural diversity issues as well as a number of other topics of mutual interests. This project is of communitywide interest, and staff feels that it is important that the City contribute towards its success.

FISCAL IMPACT
The Finance Director will transfer $5,000 from the City Manager’s contingency fund which is budgeted for issues like this that occur each year but are impossible to predict.

RESOLUTION NO.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BRENTWOOD AUTHORIZING THE FINANCE DIRECTOR TO ASSIST IN FUNDING THE LIBERTY UNTION HIGH SCHOOL UNITY PLAZA PROJECT THROUGH A DONATION OF $5,000 FROM THE CITY MANAGER’S CONTINGENCY FUND.

WHEREAS, the students of Liberty Union High School made a presentation to the City Council on September 23, 2003, informing the Council of the Unity Plaza Project and their fund raising efforts; and

WHEREAS, the Brentwood City Council wishes to support the Liberty Union High School students in their scholastic as well as social efforts; and

WHEREAS, the City and the High School District have a long and mutually beneficial history of working together on such projects; and

WHEREAS, the City Council believes in the principles being embodied through the Unity Plaza;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Brentwood that the Finance Director be authorized to assist in funding the Liberty Union High School Unity Plaza Project through a donation of $5,000 from the City Manager’s contingency fund.

PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Brentwood at a regular meeting held on the 14th day of October, 2003 by the following vote:
