SUBJECT: Update on EBART Planning for Station Locations in Brentwood

Last year the Council reviewed a number of potential locations for an EBART station near our downtown. Council selected a site in the west portion of Special Planning Area (SPA) B. BART and their consultant, Wilbur Smith Associates has started preliminary planning for this station location. I asked them to superimpose the proposed Pinn Brothers development to the west on their station plans. They have provided me with the two attached alternatives for locating the proposed EBART station platform and parking lot.

Site Plan A shows the platform and related parking just south of Marsh Creek, where there would be a pedestrian connection from the Pinn Brothers development, via the existing Marsh Creek Trail.

Site Plan B shows the platform and parking further south. While this location is a bit closer to downtown, and a bit more central to the Pinn Brothers project, it would require a new separate pedestrian connection across the tracks from Pinn. The City Engineer and I believe this should not be an at grade crossing due to safety concerns. Such an above or below grade crossing would increase the cost of the project.

If Council has opinions on the two locations, it would be helpful if they would provide direction to the consultant.

Ron Holmes of Wilbur Smith Associates will make a presentation to Council on the status of the station planning.
