Subject/Title: Approve the purchase of a new Solid Waste Front-Load Collection Truck from Oakland Truck Center and authorize the City Manager to execute a purchase agreement not to exceed $170,903.03.

Approve the purchase of a new commercial Front-Load Collection Truck for the Solid Waste Enterprise and authorize the City Manager to execute the agreement and necessary documents to purchase a 2003 Autocar/Wittke Front-Load Collection Truck in the amount not to exceed $170,903.03.
Approved in Fiscal Year 2002/2003 Budget.
The City’s continued growth and most importantly, the age of our current front-load collection truck, warrants the purchase of a new truck to keep within our framework of an eight year replacement schedule.
This purchase is in compliance with the Purchasing Policy adopted on February 26, 2002, Resolution No. 2475.
Our current front-load truck is just over eight (8) years old and has been Solid Waste’s workhorse on the commercial route since we took over the services in 1994 from the previous hauler. It is fully funded and due for replacement this fiscal year. It will be overhauled and serve as a back up once the new truck arrives.
A competitive bid process took place on the body and the results are attached to this report. We did not competitively bid the chassis to maintain fleet consistency and to minimize our parts inventory.
No direct expenditures will occur from the 2002/2003 Solid Waste Enterprise. This $170,903.03 expenditure will be fully funded by the Vehicle Replacement Fund.
• Front-Loader Truck Bid Pricing
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BRENTWOOD AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A PURCHASE AGREEMENT FOR A NEW SOLID WASTE FRONT-LOAD COLLECTION TRUCK FROM OAKLAND TRUCK CENTER NOT TO EXCEED $170,903.03.
WHEREAS, in the 2002/2003 annual budget a Vehicle Replacement Fund was established in order to develop a predictable, manageable method of amortizing vehicle costs and insuring scheduled replacement of essential trucks; and
WHEREAS, there is one (1) Solid Waste Collection Truck scheduled for replacement through the Vehicle Replacement Fund at this time; and
WHEREAS, staff requested and received competitive bids from three (3) vendors / dealers; and
WHEREAS, staff is selecting the best truck for the City’s collection operation as well as the lowest priced of all of the bids; and
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Brentwood that the City will purchase one (1) Solid Waste Front-Load Collection Truck from Oakland Truck Center at a cost not to exceed $ 170,903.03.
