Meeting Date: November 12, 2002

Subject/Title: Accept the Work Performed by Clayborn Contracting Group, Inc. for Construction of the Site Improvements for Water Well No. 14, CIP Project No. 562-5615

Submitted by: Engineering: B. Grewal/P. Eldredge

Approved by: John Stevenson, City Manager

RECOMMENDATION
Approve a Resolution accepting the work performed by Clayborn Contracting Group, Inc., for construction of the Site Improvements for Water Well No. 14, CIP Project No. 562-5615, and directing the City Clerk to file a Notice of Completion with the County Recorder.

PREVIOUS ACTION
On July 14, 1998, by Resolution No. 98-117, the City Council approved a hydrogeological investigation of the groundwater resources in and around the Brentwood area.

On July 28, 1998, by Resolution 98-140, the City Council authorized the City Manager to execute an agreement with Luhdorff and Scalmanini, Consulting Engineers, to prepare water well test hole specifications, monitor test hole drilling, logging, sampling, testing, preparation of a test hole report, recommendation, design and technical assistance during construction of Water Well No. 14 and design and construction of three test holes and one monitoring well.

On June 13, 2000, the City Council awarded the construction contract for the drilling of Water Well No. 14 to Maggiora Bros. Drilling, Inc.

On March 27, 2001, the City Council awarded a contract to Clayborn Contracting Group, Inc. for construction of the Site Improvements for Water Well No.14.

BACKGROUND
Water Well No. 14 is located on the north side of Lone Tree Way, east of Brentwood Boulevard. Clayborn Contracting Group, Inc. completed the site improvements to Water Well No. 14 and has met all the contractual requirements required to accept the work completed. This acceptance by the City Council is an administrative action necessary to formally closeout the project. However, it might be interesting to note some of the statistics pertaining to this well. The well is capable of pumping 1,000 gallons per minute and is the highest producer out of all the wells thus far. The water quality is consistent with that of the other wells in the area, hardness is low and nitrates are in the 4-5 mg/l range (State limit is 45 mg/l). The depth of the well is approximately 325 feet with a sanitary seal depth of 210 feet.

FISCAL IMPACT
There are no fiscal impacts anticipated at this time with the exception of the normal operations and maintenance costs that shall be paid through the water enterprise account.
