Direction from City Council concerning the use of City property, at the Tech Center Parking Lot, for a Chevrolet Dealership Tent Sale tentatively scheduled for June 21-23, 2002, and issuance of a temporary use permit and an encroachment permit.
Councilman Petrovich worked with the Tracy Chevrolet dealership to bring a Tent Sale to Brentwood the weekend of June 21-23, 2002. The dealership has agreed to declare the sales tax on each car sold as Brentwood sales tax, and in addition has agreed to donate to PAL $100 for each car sold.
While no application has been submitted for the encroachment permit or temporary use permit, staff believed that this use was in line with the City’s policy of being business-friendly and that car dealers do better from proximity to other dealers (ie. auto malls).
However, local car dealers have invested millions of dollars in this community to build their dealerships and may feel that by allowing another dealer to come in and conduct a tent sale with very little investment in the community undermines their businesses.
A tent sale could be held on properly zoned property by submitting an application for a temporary use permit from the Zoning Administrator and an encroachment permit from the Engineering Department.
Staff seeks direction from the Council on the use of City property for a tent sale and the issuance of an encroachment and temporary use permit or to direct Tracy Chevrolet to seek an alternative location with proper zoning.
