City of Brentwood

P R O C L A M A T I O N


WHEREAS, the Countywide Youth Commission is comprised of twenty-five young people from across Contra Costa County and serves as an advisory panel to the Board of Supervisors on youth-related matters, and;

WHEREAS, the Contra Costa Youth Initiative is an innovative new program created and directed by the Commission, designed to take an accurate snapshot of the needs and concerns of county youth in order to further the Commissionís effective youth advocacy, and;

WHEREAS, the initial phase of the Initiative shall consist of six community forums, held across the County, to be held with, by and for youth, for the purpose of collecting and recording youth input, and;

WHEREAS, the Commission will also distribute surveys in order to collect the input of those who might otherwise be unable to attend forums, thus ensuring an accurate picture of the needs of youth in all areas and situations within the County, and;

WHEREAS, after successfully collecting this body of data, the Commission will accurately record, organize, and synthesize this data into a final report, and;

WHEREAS, the commission will present this final report to the Board of Supervisors and other interested bodies, thus effectively voicing the concerns and needs of county youth and;

WHEREAS, the Countywide Youth Commission, in this endeavor, will continue to effectively serve and represent the youth population of Contra Costa County, better enabling them to be responsible and participating citizens in their communities, both present and future, and;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Michael A. McPoland, Sr., Mayor of the City of Brentwood and itís city council, do hereby take great pleasure in endorsing and supporting the work of the Countywide Youth Commission in the form of the Contra Costa Youth Initiative as an important and useful program for the youth of the County.
