Becky Bridgen, Purchasing Agent
Approved by: John Stevenson, City Manager
Authorize the City Manager to purchase two (2) each Ford F-150 pick up trucks and one (1) each Ford F-250 pick up truck with utility body for Public Works maintenance from Bill Brandt Ford at a cost not to exceed $58,396.39 for the three (3) trucks.
In the 2001/2002 budget for replacement vehicles, $76,767.00 had been budgeted to replace vehicle nos. 5615, 5628 and 5901 including accessories.
Staff contacted the two (2) local car dealers and three (3) utility body vendors with the following results:
Bill Brandt Ford $53,074.98
Brentwood Dodge $55,274.62
Calif. State Contract $52,769.71
The difference of $305.27 between Bill Brandt Ford and the Calif. State contract is covered by the Local Preference Clause in the Purchasing Policy giving the local vendor preference of 3% of the lowest quote which would be $1,583.09.
North Bay Truck Body $5,160.28
Dailey Body Co. $5,134.30
Diamond Truck Body $4,727.71
The Head Mechanic reviewed the quotes and suggested paying the additional $432.57 and purchasing the North Bay Truck Body because they use stainless steel for the top of the compartments and the body rockguard which makes the bed last longer. North Bay also uses a better locking mechanism with a better seal to keep water out of the compartments.
Bill Brandt Ford will work with North Bay Truck Body and bill us for the total package.
The vehicles have been funded through the Vehicle Replacement Fund.
