Meeting Date: August 28, 2001
Subject/Title: Continued Public Hearing - Sciortino Property General Plan and Specific Plan Amendment and Rezoning
Submitted by: Oshinsky/Leana, Community Development Department.
Approved by: Jon Elam, City Manager
Staff met with the High School District Representatives last week to discuss the issue of the proposed neighborhood park/soccer field site associated with their project. The High School District Board has expressed interest in discussing this issue at it’s September 12, 2001 meeting.
Consequently, staff is requesting that this item be continued to the City Council meeting of September 25, 2001, so that the School Board’s comments and/or action can be incorporated into our report.

RE: Request to Continue Development of Scortino Property
As a result of the City Council meeting on August 14, 2001 related to this item, I have been in contact with Dan Smith, Superintendent of Liberty Union High School District, regarding their interest in the possible purchase/development of the proposed 2.74 acre “park” site in this proposed development. Unfortunately, Mr. Smith was out of town and unable to meet on this issue until Wednesday, August 22nd.
At the meeting it was confirmed by both School District and City representatives that the proposal from the developer at the City Council meeting to sell this property to the School District was a new revelation that had not previously been discussed by either side with the developer. As a result, Mr. Smith has informed me that the Liberty Union High School District Board of Education would like to discuss the possibility of purchasing the property at their next Board meeting. As their next meeting is not until September 12, 2001, staff is requesting that this item be continued to the City Council meeting of September 25, 2001 to allow the District Board the opportunity to discuss their interests in this matter.
City and School District staff will also be meeting with Schuyler Homes representatives to consider other options for the resolution of this issue.
