RECOMMENDATION
That Council authorize payment of $250.00 for weed abatement services for Parcel
No. 013 212 008.

PREVIOUS ACTION:
On June 26, 2001 Resolution No. 2324 was adopted confirming existence of a public nuisance by reason of keeping noxious weeds and/or combustible debris, therefore creating a potential fire hazard on various properties throughout the city and authorizing staff to contract for the abatement of those nuisances.

BACKGROUND:
In 1974 Ordinance No. 253 was adopted authorizing city staff to conduct routine inspections to identify potential fire hazards caused by the accumulation of dry weeds and/or combustible debris. 

DISCUSSION:

On June 27, 2001 staff notified 8 property owners in non-compliance with the City’s Weed Abatement program, of the adoption of Resolution No. 2324, ordering the voluntary abatement of the parcels within 14 days or authorizing city staff to abate the nuisance.

On July 16, 2001 an inspection was conducted and one parcel was found to be in noncompliance. Staff contracted Ed Richard Discing to abate Parcel No. 013 212 008, located at Oak and Garin Parkway for noncompliance. Ed Richard Discing abated the parcel on 
July 26, 2001 for a fee of $250.00.

We are requesting that the $250.00 weed abatement charge, plus $350.00 administrative cost be levied upon the property tax liens.
