Approve a resolution amending Resolution No. 2198 increasing the deposit amount for hydrant meters from $750.00 to $2,500.00.
On November 14, 2000, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 2198 approving certain City fees. Included in these fees was the $750.00 deposit for hydrant meters.
As of June 1, 2001, the Utility Billing Division of the Finance Department has taken over the management of the hydrant meters. In reviewing the policies and procedures, it was discovered that the deposit amount for hydrant meters was only $750.00. This has been the deposit amount since 1990. The current cost of a hydrant meter is approximately $725.00. Construction water is billed at a rate of $3.50 per unit (thousand gallons). Many contractors/developers have failed to return the hydrant meters because their costs are far higher than the original deposit paid. Increasing the deposit amount to $2,500.00 should encourage the return of the hydrant meters.
This is strictly a deposit account and there are no costs to the City.
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BRENTWOOD AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 2198 INCREASING THE DEPOSIT AMOUNT FOR HYDRANT METERS FROM $750.00 TO $2,500.00.
WHEREAS, on November 14, 2000, the City Council approved Resolution No. 2198
Adopting the 2000/01 Cost Allocation Plan, adopting the DMG-Maximus report for computing fees for City services and revising the City’s Service Fees; and
WHEREAS, the 2000/01 Cost Allocation Plan established a deposit amount of $750,00 for hydrant meters; and
WHEREAS, a hydrant meter can be purchased for $725.00; and
WHEREAS, construction water is billed at a rate of $3.50 per thousand gallons; and
WHEREAS, hydrant meters have not been returned to the City on a regular basis; and
WHEREAS, an increased deposit amount would be incentive to return the meters.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Brentwood approves a resolution amending Resolution 2198 increasing the deposit amount for hydrant meters from $750.00 to $2,500.00
