Authorize the City Manager to purchase of five (5) vehicles from Bill Brandt Ford for the Public Works Department at a cost not to exceed $123,393.
In the 2000/01 budget for replacement vehicles, five (5) vehicles were identified to be replaced, two (2) for the water department, two (2) for the street department and one (1) for the solid waste department.
Staff requested quotes from Bill Brandt Ford and Brentwood Dodge as shown below:
Bill Brandt Ford Total $123,392.16
Brentwood Dodge Total $127,059.84
The State of California vehicle contract was also looked at and considering the 3% for the Local Preference clause in our Purchasing Policy Bill Brandt Ford was the low bidder. The local preference clause states that if the quote is within 3% of the lowest quote preference shall be given to a local vendor. In the case of vehicles if there is ever any warranty work to be done to the vehicle and we purchased it out of town the vendor may not give us any preference in getting the work done.
For the three (3) ¾ ton trucks it was determined that the extra horsepower was needed in order to tow trailers, generators, etc. The street department is purchasing trucks with service bodies that will be able to carry all necessary equipment and materials to install signs and carry paints and stencils for marking. This will save in manpower because it cuts out a step of determining what items are needed for a job and returning to the corporation yard to get the necessary equipment and materials then returning to do the job.
