City of Brentwood
WHEREAS, over 86,000 hours of service have been donated by library volunteers, literacy tutors, Library Commissioners and Friends of the Library in 2000; and,
WHEREAS, volunteers can connect the library with their local community through service opportunities; and,
WHEREAS, volunteers are essential to the support and functioning of library and literacy services; and,
WHEREAS, volunteers can make a difference in the lives of children, adults and the elderly; and,
WHEREAS, during this week we have a special opportunity to encourage citizens of all ages to connect to their community of volunteering; and,
WHEREAS, The United Nations General Assembly has proclaimed 2001 as the International Year of Volunteers, highlighting the valuable contributions volunteers make worldwide.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that The City Council of the City of Brentwood does hereby acknowledge April 22-28, 2001 as National Volunteer Week and urges its fellow citizens to recognize and thank the library volunteers, literacy tutors, Library Commissioners and Friends of the Library members for their outstanding support and commitment to excellent library and literacy service.
