Subject/Title: Request for Funding Support

Submitted by: Jon Elam, City Manager

Approved by: Jon Elam, City Manager

Approve a request of $17,000 to support the preparation of an application to the Federal Department of Housing & Urban Development (H.U.D.) for a 41-unit senior housing (sec. 202) project in the City.

The City of Brentwood was a strong supporter of the Sycamore Place Apartments when they were built in 1996. This is a 41-unit housing project for very low-income seniors.

Last fall the City granted the request for an option agreement to purchase what is now the City’s Public Works facility for the purpose of adding an additional 41 units of low-income senior housing adjacent to the very successful Sycamore Place Apartments.

Christian Church Homes (the owner of the Sycamore Place Apartments) would like to prepare the application to HUD later this spring. The cost to prepare such an application is estimated to be $17,000 and they would like to request this funding assistance from the City’s Housing Fund.

The Housing Sub-committee listened to this request from Christian Church Homes but does not make a recommendation on this for the rest of the City Council.

The City would receive credit for the funding as a part of the City’s contribution (estimated to be around $450,000) if the project receives favorable HUD review.
