CITY COUNCIL AGENDA ITEM NO. 29

Meeting Date: February 13, 2001

Subject/Title: Accept Proposal from William Gray & Co.

Submitted by: Jon Elam, City Manager

Approved by: Jon Elam, City Manager

RECOMMENDED ACTION
Authorize the City Manager to sign an agreement with William R. Gray & Co. in the amount not to exceed $15,000 for work on the Vasco Road Corridor.

PREVIOUS ACTION
Funds for Mr. Gray have been included in the City Budget for several years.

COMMENTS
In the past year there has been renewed activity in developing safety improvements in the Vasco Road Corridor. Funding seems to be available for straightening out the curves just beyond the Contra Costa County line.

With many agencies involved, this will be a complex project, thus with limited staff resources available. Staff would like to recommend the selection of William R. Gray & Co. to do a couple things as outlined in the attached letter.

The first is to represent the City’s interest in implementation of the Vasco Road Safety project.

Secondly, provide strategic planning advice and assistance to the City Council on a number of regional transportation issues, most particularly, the Bart extension issues and capacity improvements in the Vasco Road Corridor between Brentwood and Livermore.

Funds for this work are included in the City’s “2000-01” Engineering Department budget.
