CITY COUNCIL AGENDA ITEM
Meeting Date: November 28, 2000
Subject/Title: Cable T.V. Broadcast of City Council Meetings
Submitted by: Jon Elam, City Manager
Approved by: Jon Elam, City Manager
If the City Council is interested in pursuing the showing of City Council Meetings
via the Community Cable Channel, this will be referred to the Telecommunication
Subcommittee for review and report back to the City Council.
This has been discussed off and on over the past few years.
Councilmember Steve Young requested the item be placed on the agenda. The City
has, with its present cable franchise, no specific provisions to require cabling
City Council meetings. To do so will require the proper wiring of the Council
Chambers, the acquisition of appropriate camera equipment and the training
of staff to operate the equipment. During the previous cable franchise negotiations
this was identified as a high priority, but discussions got bogged down on
other points and the existing franchise was extended for a three-year period.
It was/is expected that these discussions will begin again (assuming the Cable
T.V. Franchise holder, AT&T Broadband, agrees to do so) after the first
of the year.
Presently the Subcommittee consists of Councilmembers Petrovich and Young.
Both remain on the City Council to undertake this effort if the Mayor and the
City Council wishes work in this direction.
