CITY COUNCIL AGENDA ITEM NO. 9
Meeting Date: November 14, 2000

Subject/Title: Approve a Resolution to transfer Quimby funds for landscape improvements for the final phase of Summerwood Park, and similar trail extension projects (CIP 522-5212).

Submitted by: Craig Bronzan, Director of Parks and Recreation

Approved by: Jon Elam, City Manager

RECOMMENDATION
Approve the Resolution to:
· Transfer of $100,000 from Quimby Act funds to the Trails Development fund (CIP 522-5212)
· Contract with M.A.T. & Sons Landscape, Inc., the low bidder, to build Summerwood Park trail extension for the amount of $31,110 (+ $5,000 contingencies).

PREVIOUS ACTION

Approval of CIP Project number 522-5212 as identified in the Capital Improvement Program, Final Budget 2000/2005, approved by City Council on May 12, 2000.

BACKGROUND

Summerwood Park was built in 1999 and accepted by the City of Brentwood in May of 2000. It was decided, at the time of this construction, to delay the installation of the landscaped piece adjacent to the soon to be built bridge over Sand Creek. The bridge is now built and staff would like to complete this park as per the approved, original master plan.

This project is identified in our current five year CIP as project number 522-5212 (page 133 of this document). Your action will provide funding for this currently un-funded project.

Three bids were solicited to build this project as per the original landscape specifications. Two quotations were received - one from M.A.T. & Sons in the amount of $31,110 and one from East Bay Construction in the amount of $37,026. A quotation was solicited from MCE Corporation but they were unable to provide a bid at this time due to their current work load.

There are several, similar trail landscape projects that also need to be completed in fiscal year 2000/2001. The balance of the $100,000 requested will be utilized for these projects.
