CITY COUNCIL AGENDA ITEM NO. 22

Meeting Date: September 12, 2000

Subject/Title: Approval of agreement with Terrapins Swim Team for use of City of Brentwood Family Aquatic Complex.

Submitted by: Craig D. Bronzan, Director of Parks and Recreation

Approved by:
Jon Elam, City Manager

RECOMMENDATION
Approve recommendation from Park and Recreation Commission for agreement with Terrapins Swim Team for use of City of Brentwood Family Aquatic Complex.

PREVIOUS ACTION
City Council approved recreation swim, swimming lesson, and lap swim fees on June 13, 2000, with use agreements to follow. The City of Brentwood Park and Recreation Commission approved an agreement with the Terrapins Swim Team on August 24, 2000.

BACKGROUND
When the swim fees were brought to City Council for the City of Brentwood Family Aquatic Complex on June 13, 2000, staff indicated that use agreements with various swim clubs would be brought to the Park and Recreation Commission and City Council for approval once the clubs were ready to use the facility.

The Terrapins Swim Team has made a written request for use of the pool for September 18th - December 7th, 2000. Staff has reviewed the request and has found the price to be within the market for pool use.

Staff recommended the Park and Recreation Commission approve the recommendation of a charge of $1.75 per lane, per hour, as per the request (see attached use request). Staff also recommended the Terrapins pay the actual cost per hour ($6.00 per hour plus part time employee benefits), to be billed monthly as accrued. The Commission approved the staff recommendation and requests City Council approval the Commission recommendation.

Staff will monitor this initial use by the Terrapins, comparing rental fees to actual costs, to assist setting appropriate fees for 2001.
