CITY COUNCIL AGENDA ITEM NO. 6
Meeting Date: May 23, 2000
Subject/Title: Approve the purchase of a Water Truck for the Water Enterprise
Submitted by: Thom Head
Approved by: Jon Elam, City Manager
Approve a resolution for the purchase of a new truck for the water enterprise to Interstate Truck Center and authorize the City Manager to execute the agreement and necessary documents to purchase a 2000 Interstate Water Truck in the amount not to exceed $45,482.04.
Approved in the FY99/00 Budget.
A water truck is a versatile piece of construction equipment that is needed for a wide variety of tasks in virtually every division of Public Works and Park Maintenance. A few of the many uses anticipated include: downtown and community cleanups, NPDES program compliance, and emergency spill response. Staff originally attempted to locate a used unit, but found the cost savings, realized by purchasing a used unit did not warrant the risk of purchasing used equipment. Quotes for used 1800-2000 gallon units ranged from $26,000 to $38,000.
Staff obtained quotes from three difference vendors for a new 2000 gallon, 2 axle water truck as follows: Interstate Truck Center $45,482.04; Valew Welding and Fabrication $47,521.75; and Oakland Truck Center $73,133.21 for this purchase. Funds are included in the FY99/00 Water Operations budget. (Quotes attached)
