AGENDA ITEM Approve the Purchase of Solid Waste Front-Load Collection Containers and Roll-off Debris Boxes
PREVIOUS ACTIONS: The City Council approved the purchase of Solid Waste collection containers in the adoption of the 1999/2000 budget.
RECOMMENDED COUNCIL ACTION: Authorize the City Manager to execute a purchase agreement with Consolidated Fabricators in an amount not to exceed $37,635 for Solid Waste collection containers.
COMMENTS: The growth of the commercial sector and the popularity of the Neighborhood Clean-ups, has increased our need for front-load garbage cans and roll-off debris boxes in the Solid Waste Division. Based on this years growth, the amounts budgeted in Capital Outlay for those specific line items are less than the current need, while the amount budgeted for residential carts is high. Below are the actual amounts budgeted:

Staff requested proposals and received the attached competitive bids for these bins. The bid amount of $37,635 ($9,066 front-load bins and $28,569 for drop boxes) exceeds $25,000 and exceeds the line item amounts approved in the budget for those particular bin styles, even though total expenditures for containers will be within the annual budget. Therefore, to keep within the budgeted guidelines for all containers, staff is requesting Council to approve expenditure of funds for commercial containers previously earmarked for residential carts.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BRENTWOOD AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A CONTRACT FOR PURCHASE OF FRONT-LOAD BINS AND ROLL-OFF DEBRIS BOXES FOR AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED THIRTY SEVEN THOUSAND, SIX HUNDRED THIRTY FIVE DOLLARS ($37,635).
WHEREAS, the neighborhood cleanups scheduled by the Solid Waste Division have become very popular to Brentwood residents, and
WHEREAS, commercial solid waste collection sites continue to increase in the community, and
WHEREAS, the Public Works Department has identified the need for additional front-load bins and roll-off debris boxes to assure the efficient collection of commercial and neighborhood solid waste, and
WHEREAS, bids have been solicited from a minimum of two companies for these containers, and
WHEREAS, Consolidated Fabricators submitted the lowest responsive bid for this equipment,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Brentwood, that the City Manager execute the Contract for purchase of equipment to Consolidated Fabricators not to exceed $37,635.
