REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
January 25, 2000 _________3________
ORIGINATING CITY MANAGER DEPARTMENT
AGENDA ITEM REVIEW
PREVIOUS ACTIONS: Approved in FY99/00 Budget
RECOMMENDED COUNCIL ACTION: Passage of a resolution approving the purchase of a new vactor truck for the wastewater enterprise to Aquatech and authorize the City Manager to execute the agreement and necessary documents to purchase a 2000 Aquatech Model B10 and Sterling cab and chassis in the amount not to exceed $199,847.04.
COMMENTS: The City’s present Vactor cleaning unit has proven ineffective for high productivity sewer collection system cleaning. The Aquatech Model B-10 is a state of the art hydrojet cleaner and vacuum debris removal unit. The unit has a 10 cubic yard debris hopper and a jet rodder capable of 85 gallons of water per minute for line cleaning. The Aquatech will enable crews to move forward to a proactive collection system cleaning program without the need for confined space entry procedures, which are time consuming and expensive. The jet/vacuum unit will also be available for removal of debris from Storm Drain systems as required by the City’s NPDES permit.
Staff obtained quotes from three different vendors and checked warranties thoroughly. Attached are quotes from the three vendors.
Attachment: Resolution No.
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BRENTWOOD AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A CONTRACT FOR PURCHASE OF JET CLEANER VACUUM TRUCK FOR AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED ONE HUNDRED AND NINETY NINE THOUSAND, EIGHT HUNDRED FORTY SEVEN DOLLARS AND FOUR CENTS ($199,847.04) AND GRANT THE CITY MANAGER AUTHORITY TO EXECUTE CHANGE ORDERS UP TO 10% OF THE CONTRACT AMOUNT.
WHEREAS, The Public Works Department has identified the need for a Jet Cleaner/Vacuum Truck to provide efficient cleaning services in The Wastewater Enterprise
WHEREAS, this equipment will be needed for these cleaning services for a period greater than two years, and
WHEREAS, the Department has determined purchase of this equipment will be more cost effective than rental of this equipment over a two year period, and
WHEREAS, bids have been solicited from a minimum of three companies for this equipment, and
WHEREAS, Aquatech submitted the lowest responsive bid for this equipment,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Brentwood, that the City Manager execute the Contract for purchase of equipment to Aquatech not to exceed One Hundred and Ninety Nine Thousand, Eight Hundred Forty Seven Dollars and Four Cents Dollars ($199,847.04) and grant the City Manager authority to execute change orders up to 10% of the contract amount.
