Motion to authorize the City Manager
to execute a professional service
agreement, not to exceed $30,000
for architectural services for design
of a City of Brentwood Skate Park.
Council Park and Recreation subcommittee held a community meeting on
September 16, 1999, to discuss the possibility of building a skate park
in Brentwood. The City
Council passed Resolution No. 99-225 on October 12, 1999, amending the
1999-2004 Capital Improvement program to include construction of a skate
park in Brentwood and directing the Parks and Recreation Director to
return to City Council for the award of the construction contract.
The Park and Recreation Commission and Youth Commission held
a joint special meeting on October 18, 1999, to consider forming a task
force for the development of a skate park.
The City Council approved the establishment of a Skate Park Task
Force on October 26, 1999.
COUNCIL ACTION: The
Skate Park Task Force will be interviewing the second of two architectural
firms on Saturday, January 8, 2000.
Following the interview, the Task Force will be reaching a consensus
as to which firm to recommend to City Council for consideration as the
architect for the City of Brentwood Skate Park.
The Skate Park Task Force is recommending a motion to authorize
the City Manager to execute a professional service agreement, not to
exceed $30,000 for the architectural services of the Skate Park.
Staff will be providing information on the recommended finalist
to City Council before the City Council meeting.
a result of the establishment of the Skate Park Task Force, staff has
been working with the task force to keep this project on a fast track. The Task Force met on November 4, 1999 to review the steps
necessary to construct a skate park, determined a process for selection
of an architect, and discussed possible sites.
It was the consensus of the Task Force that the best site would
be between the aquatic complex and Brentwood Elementary School at the
new aquatic/park complex.
Task Force meet again on November 23, 1999 for a presentation from the
City's contractual landscape architectural firm RRM Design, who utilizes
Wormhoudt Landscape Architecture, Incorporated.
At the same time, on the recommendation of the Task Force, staff
was in the process of receiving requests for proposals from outside
firms for consideration.
December 18, 1999, staff took 15 members of the Task Force on a field
trip to visit four skate parks in Santa Rosa, Petaluma, Alameda, and
Task Force met again on November 27, 1999 to review additional landscape
architectural firm proposals, of which only Land Image Landscape Architects
of Chico, California, made a proposal.
The Task Force decided to allow Land Image the opportunity to
give a presentation on January 8, 2000.
A decision would be reached after the presentation as to which
firm to recommend to City Council for use on design of the Skate Park.
an effort to keep the momentum moving forward and not hold off until
the January 25, 2000 City Council meeting, staff is requesting City
Council consider the recommendation of the task force, which will be
provided to City Council prior to the Council meeting.
