A special meeting of the City Council of the City of Brentwood was called to order at 9:00 a.m. in the City Council Chambers located at 734 Third Street, Brentwood, California, with Mayor McPoland presiding.

PUBLIC COMMENT - None
Discussion concerning the resignation of Steve Young from the City Council.
Councilmember Gomes asked if the Council was authorized to make a determination on what methodology they will use to fill the vacancy. Dennis Beougher, City Attorney, answered yes and that they may make a motion to pick the method they will use to fill the vacancy.
Councilmember Hill asked if the Council chose to make an appointment and then decided later they wanted to hold a special election, could they still do that. Mr. Beougher answered that yes, however a determination of the method must be made within thirty-days from the date Councilmember Young resigned.
Karen Diaz, City Clerk, spoke regarding the costs involved with holding an election.
Councilmember Hill stated that cost should not be an issue for this item.
It was moved/seconded by Gomes/Petrovich to fill the vacancy on the Council by appointments of one of the unsuccessful candidates from the General Municipal Election held on November 7, 2000 election after holding a public interview. Motion carried unanimously with one vacancy.
Council directed staff to contact all unsuccessful candidates from the November 7, 2001 to interview at the January 23, 2001 meeting.
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 9:17 a.m.
