Youth Commission Minutes - December 6, 2006
REGULAR MEETING – YOUTH COMMISSION
CITY OF BRENTWOOD
Wednesday, December 6, 2006 at 6:00 p.m.
Cap’s Oak Street Restaurant

CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 6:45 p.m.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
All stood for the Pledge of Allegiance

ROLL CALL
Commissioners Belinda Ordaz, Stephanie James, Christine Mendez, Luke Barnesmoore, Matthew Strauss, Leah Hocking, Brianna Swisher, Taylor Brinkman, Sarah Simmons and Mickell Escobar were present. Adult Advisors present were James Martinez and Julie Truesdell. PAL Liaison present was Mark Louwerens. City Staff Liaisons present were Tom Burt and Barbie Gary.

6:50 Sarah Simmons arrived.

PRESENTATION(S)
Recreation Coordinator Mike Tsutsumi announced the Breakfast with Santa event that is on Saturday, December 9, 2006. He stated that the Youth Commission has been helpful in the past with volunteering, and that he was looking forward to them helping out this year, as well. They discussed the event and duties.

ANNOUNCEMENT(S)
City Staff Liaison Burt announced that this was his final meeting and Breakfast with Santa is the last event he will be working with the Youth Commission. City Staff Liaison Gary will be officially taking over for him.

CONSENT CALENDAR
Commissioner Strauss made a motion to approve the consent calendar. Commissioner Hocking seconds the motion. All were in favor.

SCHEDULED MATTERS:
• DISCUSSION ITEM Update on preparation and schedule for the Teen Forum. (J. Martinez)
Adult Advisor Martinez explained the details of this event, as to where they will be meeting and the itinerary of the day.

• ACTION ITEM Update from sub-committee and approval of activities for the Teen Activities Night (L. Hocking)
Commissioner Hocking stated that the subcommittee agreed that they would like to start at 6:00 p.m. and end at 9:00 p.m. They would also like to do the same as last year:
Introductions
Ice Breaker (TBD)
Games (Capture Flag, Knot Game, still deciding on the 3rd game)
They are to wear their polo or sweatshirts. Commissioner Brinkman made a motion to approve the selection of activities. Commissioner Mendez seconds the motion. All were in favor.

COMMISSIONER COMMENTS
None

STAFF COMMENTS
City Liaison Burt stated that an email went out to all department heads, Council and secretaries at the City to let them know about the Youth Forum.
