| CITY OF BRENTWOOD YOUTH COMMISSION SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES May 25, 2004 at 3:15 p.m. City Council Chambers 734 Third Street Brentwood, CA 94514 CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 3:18 p.m. by Chairperson Brea Bryant. ROLL CALL: Commissioners present were Jessica Ordaz, Belinda Ordaz, Brea Bryant, Crystal Hammers, Daisy Hurtado, Andrea Tate, Cynthia Fredenberg, and Taylor Brinkman. Commissioners absent were Nicole Forde and Megan DeGuerre. Tom Burt, Recreational Services Supervisor and Tammy Homan, Administrative Secretary were also present for the meeting. PRESENTATION: None. AGENDA REVIEW: No changes. CITIZENS COMMENTS: None CONSENT CALENDAR: 1. Approve Special Meeting Minutes of April 27, 2004. (T. Burt) Commissioner Cynthia Fredenberg moved the approval of the minutes of the April 27 Special Meeting, Commissioner Daisy Furtado seconded the motion, motion carried. SCHEDULED MATTERS: 2. Approve recommendations of new Commissioners and Adult Advisors for City Council approval. (All Commissioners) Mr. Burt told the Commissioners that on Thursday, May 13 the subcommittee met with himself and Adult Advisor Ceja and interviewed nine applicants for the Youth Commission vacancies. Seven were chosen and the list of those recommended was then passed out for the Commission’s approval. Those applicants presented for approval to the Commissioner were as follows: Luke Barnesmoore Ashley Clare Elizabeth Cruz Mickell Escobar Leah Hocking Christine Mendez Brianna Swisher These applicants would fill the vacancies caused by the completion of terms by the outgoing Commissioners. Commissioners remaining on the Commission for the upcoming term are Cynthia Fredenberg, Taylor Brinkman, and Belinda Ordaz. The applicants recommended for Adult Advisor positions are Anamarie Torres and Victor Silva. Chairperson Brea Bryant moved the acceptance of the Commissioner applicants and the Adult Advisors as presented. Commissioner Daisy Hurtado seconded the motion, motion carried. Mr. Burt reminded the Commissioners that their last meeting with the current Commissioners on board will be June 2, 2004. The new Commissioners will meet with the City Council this evening and will officially take the oath of office on June 8, 2004. The new and outgoing Commissioners will all meet at the regular meeting on June 2, when the new Commissioners will meet with the full Commission. On June 22, 2004 the retiring Commissioners will attend City Council and receive their awards 7:00 p.m. Mr. Burt and Ms. Homan said these will be first on the agenda for the City Council meeting and will be called in alphabetical order. They will also set a date for a party for all outgoing and incoming Commissioners later in June, the date to be decided at the next regular meeting. Mr. Burt said it is also very important that all Commissioners be present for the next regular meeting on Wednesday, June 2nd as he must have a quorum for decisions that have to be made at that meeting. He said it will not be a long meeting and encouraged all to be there and call the two Commissioners who were not present at this meeting. 3. Discussion of presentation to recipients of Fun Run proceeds at Park and Recreation Commission meeting of May 27, 2004. (T. Burt) Mr. Burt told the Commissioners that the Commission will be receiving $500 from their participation in the Fun Run at this meeting. This is an excellent fundraiser for the Youth Commission and helps in raising funds for the Scholarship Fund. This will be this coming Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, May 27, 2004. He asked for volunteers to attend this meeting and accept the check. This will be early in the meeting under Presentations. Commissioners Hurtado and Bryant said they will be there to attend the meeting. Adult Advisor Kiko Ceja arrived at 3:32 p.m. Mr. Burt said the fundraising events are important and urged all Commissioners to think of other ways they can raise funds. The Corn Fest will be the next opportunity and Mr. Burt will let them know about their participation in this event. The recipients of the scholarship for this year will receive their proclamations from the Mayor at the City Council meeting this evening. He explained how the funds will be distributed to the winners. CITIZEN COMMENTS: None COMMISSIONER COMMENTS: None REQUEST FOR FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS: CornFest Update on Commission Party June 8th City Council Meeting New Commissioners will be greeted and introduced.
